The purpose of the activity of the Music Endowment is to promote and preserve professional musical culture. For that purpose, the Endowment supports physical and legal persons that are active in Estonia and represent Estonia:

  • creative people, their creative and research activity and self-improvement;
  • individuals, associations and institutions and their efforts that promote musical culture (organisation of project-based musical events);
  • popularisation of music: organisation of festivals, conferences, seminars, competitions, courses and other events;
  • international communication in the area of music;
  • recording, distribution and preservation of Estonian music and art of interpretation;
  • meritorious persons involved in music and commemoration of meritorious musician;
  • studies of young musicians in domestic and foreign higher schools;
  • participation in master courses and international competitions.

Depending on the aim of the application for funds, project, activity, creative work, life`s work, jubilee and funeral benefits and grants are awarded and awards are given.

The project benefit is intended to support activities that contribute to the development and renewal of Estonian music. The activity benefit is intended to support artistic associations and artistic collectives that promote musical culture. A condition of award of the project benefit and the activity benefit is the applicant`s cost-sharing and/or co-financing at least 10% of the total amount of the project`s costs.

The creative work benefit is awarded by the Music Endowment for the creation of musical works, writing librettos, making notations and arrangements of musical works and creating and translating texts on musical topics.

The Music Endowment supports professional activity, development of skills and self-improvement of creative people (including performers, composers, arrangers, music researchers, music journalists etc.) by awarding grants.

 Creative grants:

*The quarterly grant 1,000 euros which can be applied for four times a year.

*The six-month creative grant 3,000 euros; applications can be submitted by 20 May or 20 November.

*The one-year creative grant 8,000 euros; applications can be submitted by 20 November.

* The two-year creative grant 16,000 euros; applications can be submitted by 20 November.  

Study grants:

* For students studying in Estonia, the grant amount is 500 euros. Only students that have Estonian citizenship can apply for this grant from their 2nd academic year. Applications can be submitted by 20 February or 20 November.

* The one-year study grant to study in a higher school abroad 3,000 euros; applications can be submitted by 20 February.

* The study grant to study in a higher school abroad with which studies in Finland are supported with up to 800 euros. The amount of the grant is up to 1,000 euros in other European countries. In England, Switzerland, Norway and outside of Europe the amount of the grant is up to 1,200 euros. Applications can be submitted four times a year.

Special grants:

*The performer`s grant up to 2,000 euros to ensure an active performer opportunities for lifelong learning, concert activity and learning repertoire. Applications can be submitted four times a year.

*The specialty grant is a one-time creative grant to support active creative people, music researchers, music producers/creative directors, music journalists, teachers and other promoters of the area and international cooperation. Applications can be submitted four times a year.   

Awards:

The Music Endowment`s annual awards are given to physical or legal persons that have excelled during the year, achieved a high level in their activity or developed the area that merits acknowledgement.

The Music Endowment`s life`s work award is 10,000 euros and intended to acknowledge long-term activity and contribution to the development of the area.  

Acknowledgement awards:

The teacher`s acknowledgement award is 800 euros and is intended to appreciate pedagogical activity and promote musical education in Estonia. The Music Endowment`s acknowledgement award is 1,500 euros and is intended to recognise Estonian musicians or music institutions for their activity so far. The Estonian Music Council music award is 4,000 euros and intended to recognise Estonian musicians or music institutions for their activity so far. The competition award is intended to acknowledge individuals that have achieved success at professional competitions (music writing, interpretation etc. competitions).
